Bloomfield Township is Open

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI — You'll find something for everyone at the Bloomfield Township Open House this Sunday. Complete with a helicopter landing at 2:00, the event is centered around public safety but also includes a petting zoo, tours of the new high school, building a doghouse, pumpkin crafts and a performance of a play.

The open house is Sunday, Oct. 9, noon-4 p.m., in the area around Township campus, 4200 Telegraph. Because event is in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week, many of the activities are safety related: squad car rides, firefighting demos, snowplow rides, K-9 demos, and the chance for kids to shoot a fire hose.

Adults can register to vote and apply for a passport. This year, for the first time, the new Bloomfield Hills High School will participate. The petting zoo will be on school grounds, and the new building will be open for tours.

You don’t have to be a Township resident to attend, the Birmingham Eccentric reports. All area residents are invited to participate in the activities.

In addition, the Bloomfield Township Public Library will have a table at the Senior Center, and a special presentation of the Play “Frog and Toad” will be held at 2 p.m. The library is located at Telegraph and Lone Pine Road.

Theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week is “Don’t wait: Check the date. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years.”
