Bloomfield Township Sprint Gets the Opening It Deserves
The Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce helped celebrate the local technology store's launch, which was marred by Telegraph Road construction last year.
It isn’t often that the Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce honors a business for celebrating a near one-year anniversary. But the timing couldn’t be better for employees and supporters of the Bloomfield Township Sprint store.
The full-service store and repair business at 2527 S. Telegraph Rd. opened in August, when portions of Telegraph Road were excavated and unearthed as part of a summer-long construction project.
“They opened right in the teeth of the construction, and it was just impassible here for a few months,” chamber President Joe Bauman said after a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday. “We wanted to wait for the right time to do this.”

More than 40 chamber members joined the morning festivities as part of the chamber’s regular networking coffee hours. They enjoyed some coffee and doughnuts while perusing the latest in wireless and telephone technology from the national communications giant.
In addition to product sales, the store offers equipment repair and acts as a bill payment center for Sprint customers. The local store is the first in the Bloomfield area and completes the Oakland County chain of other Sprint stores in Waterford, Southfield and Troy.

Last summer's construction on Telegraph Road wasn't the only obstacle customers confronted. The store's unique location on a sliver of commercial property near the crossroads of Franklin, Square Lake and Telegraph roads made it a challenge for customers to physically get there before construction ceased. It wasn't until January that there was regular traffic in and out of the store, company officials said.
“Customers didn’t know we were open, so we wanted to make sure we made some time before getting it the proper exposure,” store manager Jarred Caldwell said of the delayed ribbon-cutting.
The anniversary also coincides with the launch of Sprint’s new HTC EVO 3-D phone, which shoots photos in 3-D and has 4G speed.
“There’s an unlimited amount of technology here, but people can get that almost anywhere,” Caldwell explained. “People come here, again and again, because of our customer service.”
