Boyfriend Arrested for Assault, Smashing Girlfriend’s Car Windshield: Police

The 31-year-old Clarkson man is charged with domestic assault, malicious destruction of property, OWI and driving with a suspended license.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI — A Clarkston man was arrested by Bloomfield Township police early Saturday morning after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and jumped on the windshield of her car until it was completely shattered

Andy Fugate, 31, remains in the Oakland County Jail on $10,000 bond after he was arraigned Monday before 48th District Court Judge Diane D’Agostini on charges of domestic assault, malicious destruction of property,operating while intoxicated, driving on a suspended license.

Bloomfield Township police were dispatched to the 2600 block of Colonial Way about 2:30 a.m. Saturday on a domestic assault report, according to a news release. Fugate was intoxicated and had attempted to take his girlfriend’s car, police said.

“When she refused to give him the keys, he forcefully took them from her and physically assaulted her several times,” police said in the release. “He then went to her car, punched, and jumped on the windshield until it was completely shattered.”

Police said he fled the scene in the vehicle. Officers caught up with him on Woodward, where he was traveling only about 30 mph, but “was unable to stay in the lane,” according to the release.
