Caterpillar Stolen from Construction Site Recovered

Bloomfield Township police and the Oakland County Sheriff's Aviation Unit found the heavy equipment at Milford Salvage.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – A Caterpillar excavator reported stolen from a construction site in the 6800 block of Castle Drive was recovered from Milford Salvage, Bloomfield Township said.

Police took a report of the stolen equipment on Dec.. 30, according to a report.

The owner received a tip the excavator was hidden on the property of Milford Salvage located in the 2800 block of Buno Road, Milford.

With the assistance of Oakland County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit, investigators were able to check the area and observed a matching excavator on the property.

Bloomfield Township police also report a rash of home invasions and attempted home invasions in early January.

On Jan. 1, a couple living in the 70 block of Judy Lane returned home after celebrating New Year’s Eve to find their home had been broken into and more than $17,000 in personal items were stolen.

Police responded to the 1900 block of Klingensmith on Jan. 1 after being alerted by an alarm on a sliding glass door. Entry was not gained, but offices located a bucket below the balcony that the suspect used to gain access to the second story.

Finally, on Jan. 5, officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of Greentree to take a report from a homeowner who reported the theft of electronic devices and laptop computers from the residence.

The homeowners left around 5 p.m. and returned about 7:45 p.m., when they discovered forced entry.

All of the cases have been turned over to the Investigations Division for follow-up.
