Detroit Country Day School Hosts Celebrate the Arts Festival

Artistic masterpieces and original performances to showcase talents of DCDS students

Award-winning artwork, original student films, music and dance performances will be on display during the annual Detroit Country Day School (DCDS) Celebrate the Arts festival, with the main event set for 12-4 p.m. on April 22. Additional events and activities will take place from April 18 to May 24.

“We are continually impressed by the artistry and creativity our students possess, and Celebrate the Arts brings our families and local community together to recognize the talents of our students through visual, performing, and communication arts,” said Glen P. Shilling, DCDS Headmaster. “This annual festival is representative of the DCDS programs meant to instill a love and appreciation of the arts from a young age, and it is a pleasure to share our students’ passion and skills through this series of events.”

The April 22 feature event for the Celebrate the Arts festival is an impressive collection of award-winning student artwork encompassing paintings and sculpture to hand-crafted jewelry, as well as previews of student films and musical and theater performances. Additionally, the regional competitive DCDS Student Film Festival, sponsored by Airtime, is scheduled for May 12 from 7-9 p.m. Other performances throughout the festival include an Honors Symphonic Orchestra performance, DCDS Dance with Eisenhower Dance Center in a program titled Historic Future, theater performances in a marathon on-act show entitled A Festival of Fresh Plays, and instrumental and choral concerts.
