Drive for Life Invitational - Golf & Card Tournament

On Monday, June 3, The Drive for Life Invitational will take place to support oncology patient programs and services at the Walter & Marilyn Wolpin Comprehensive Breast Care Center at Beaumont, Royal Oak and the Wilson Cancer Resource Center at Beaumont, Troy. This two-venue event offers an enjoyable day for golfers at Oakland Hills Country Club, presented by AIREA and Haworth, and a competitive bridge and canasta tournament for card players at Bloomfield Hills Country Club, presented by Crestview Cadillac. Both are located in Bloomfield Hills.

Beginning at 8:30 am, golfers will enjoy playing on one of the two elegant and prestigious golf courses of Oakland Hills Country Club. Networking lunch, dinner, golf tips from pro Rick Smith and elite instructor Bret Hartman, and awards are all part of the festivities. The Drive for Life card tournament at Bloomfield Hills Country Club offers participants bridge or canasta play while socializing and enjoying a delicious lunch from 11am – 3:30pm. Prizes are awarded to the winning teams. Events conclude with card sponsors and dinner patrons joining the golfers for cocktails and a strolling dinner at Oakland Hills Country Club.

Chris Emde of Bloomfield Hills, Stephen Howard of Franklin and Ryan Marsh of Bloomfield Hills are the 2019 co-chairs of the golf outing while Bobbi Polk and Julie Beals, both of Bloomfield Hills, are the bridge co-chairs working alongside canasta co-chairs Kim Fortin of Birmingham and Veronica Isaacs of Bloomfield Hills for the card tournament.

“The Drive for Life Invitational women's bridge and canasta card tournament is an event attended by women to raise money and support for important oncology programs at Beaumont including treatment of breast cancer,” said Bobbi Polk. “Last year, I am proud to say, more than 230 women helped raise funds to add more digital breast tomosynthesis, or 3-D, mammography systems to the advanced care services at Beaumont. These machines enhance the clarity and accuracy of this important screening process.”

“This event is personal to me,” said Chris Emde. “Members of my family have been touched by cancer, including my mother. I know firsthand the importance of having access to programs that help detect, treat and cope with the disease. That is why, for more than 30 years, my family has been supporting events like this and other Beaumont cancer programs.”

The Drive for Life Invitational will also honor Susan E. Cooper of Birmingham as an exceptional leader in support of women’s programs at Beaumont, Royal Oak and Sylvia and Edward Hagenlocker, Ph.D. of Bloomfield Hills, as exceptional supporters of the breast cancer patient programs and services at the Walter J. & Marilyn Wolpin Comprehensive Breast Center at Beaumont, Royal Oak. Both are the recipients of this year’s Beaumont Distinguished Leader in Philanthropy Award.

Nayana Dekhne, M.D., Breast Surgeon at Beaumont, along with Susan Cooper, will honor Lauren Kopicky, D.O., as the 2019 John A. Ingold, M.D., Distinguished Fellow in Breast Surgery. Dr. Kopicky received her medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and has been with Beaumont since August of 2018.
