During the first week of June, participants in the drive boughtΒ cereal items, gave donations via aΒ special website established by Gleaners,Β and brought boxes of cereal to designatedΒ Children's Hospital of Michigan (DMC)Β locations throughout Metro Detroit, including West Bloomfield and Royal Oak.
Locally, the drive raised nearly 680,000 servings of cereal for hungry kids. A large jump fromΒ last yearβs collection was just shy of 400,000 servings.
On the online donation page, 8 donors composedΒ theΒ patch.comΒ team, for a total of $240.40.
This is the 4thΒ year that the Professional Nurses Council at Childrenβs Hospital has held the collection and each year it continues to grow, helpingΒ GleanersΒ provide much needed food to children who are at risk of hunger when they lose access to school-provided meals over summer break.
