BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – A section of Big Beaver Road will close Thursday, March 3, and remain closed for several months for a utility project and road reconstruction.

The utility relocation work will be completed by about May 31, the Road Commission of Oakland County said, but the road will remain closed for reconstruction of that section.

Access to homes and businesses along Big Beaver within the construction zone will be maintained throughout the road closure. The detour for through traffic will be Woodward Avenue to Long Lake Road to Adams Road and back to Big Beaver and vice versa.

“We are very sensitive to the closing of this heavily used roadway and the inconvenience it may cause to many motorists,” Road Commission board member Greg Jamian said in a statement. “But this work was necessitated by the deteriorated condition of the existing road and the bridge over the Rouge River.”

Also closed to through traffic during the work will be Ivy Street just north of Big Beaver between Kensington and Adams roads.
