“Sleep is more than just laying on a flat surface; it’s a lifestyle component,” said Martin Rawls-Meehan, founder and CEO of Reverie. “People are demanding customization and technology from all of their products and, in the bedding category, allows us to take the sector to the next level.”

The company’s adjustable frames sell from $700 to $2,000, while complete sleep systems (mattress included) retail for $4,000 to $7,000.

Reverie, one of the big players in the sleep industry, posted revenues of just under $100 million in 2014, and is on track to surpass that this year, Rawls-Meehan told the business journal.

Rawls-Meehan said he plans to invest more in research and development, but declined to say how much.

“We’re going to continue to spend more to achieve our goals,” he said. “Clearly there is a demand for better sleep, and the industry needs to step up to take more market share.”

Reverie has been manufacturing adjustable beds since 2003, and relocated to metro Detroit from Massachusetts in late 2011. Forty of the company’s 150 employees are located in Bloomfield Hills, where the headquarters and research and development labs are located.

The beds and mattresses are manufactured in Buffalo, NY, and Taiwan.
