Inaugural 'Rice in the D' Raises Money for Tuition Assistance Program

Van Conway will be honored at the Brother Rice High School event to be held Oct. 15 at the Detroit Athletic Club.

Brother Rice High School will honor longtime benefactor Van Conway will be honored at the school’s inaugural “Rice in the D” men’s night to raise money for the school’s tuition assistance program.

The event takes place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Detroit Athletic Club.

Conway, CEO, president and co-founder of Conway MacKenzie, will be honored for providing financial aid, scholarships, mentoring and overall support of the school.

Conway Mackenzie is a national firm headquartered in Birmingham that specializes in assisting companies through reorganization, mergers, acquisitions, financing, restructuring and bankruptcy.

Conway is a nationally recognized leader in his field and an active voice and participant in the financial redevelopment and economic growth of the city of Detroit, southeast Michigan and the region.

“Van’s leadership has been essential to our mission to provide a Catholic, college prep education to the many deserving students who require financial assistance to attend Brother Rice,” Brother Rice President John Birney said in a news release.

“In the last 10 years, Van’s generous support of our tuition assistance program has provided direct assistance for more than 35 young men to not only get a quality high school education but go on to succeed in college and beyond.”

Conway will be the first honoree at what will become an annual gathering for Brother Rice graduates and fathers to celebrate and support the Brother Rice Tuition Assistance Fund. Tickets can be purchased on the Brother Rice website or by clicking here.

“I have been blessed to be able to help Brother Rice and these young men,” Conway said “It takes a great deal more than just financial backing for these kids to succeed. Ensuring they have a support system in place, from the teachers to outside mentors to guide them, Brother Rice provides such a great structure for success on every level.”

Tim Keaton, chief marketing officer for the school, said the evening will provide an opportunity for young men and their fathers to enjoy the fellowship and support the mission of the school in a meaningful way.

“Specifically, that mission is to ensure that as many students as possible benefit from an education that will help them become more complete men who are better prepared for success in college, their careers and in life,” Keton said.

Rice High School is a Catholic college preparatory school for young men. Inspired by the Essential Elements of a Christian Brother Education, the school fosters the spiritual, intellectual, cultural and physical development of its students.
