Mom Accused of ‘Drop Kicking’ Cake Faces Misdemeanor

Witnesses say they saw the woman 'drop kick' the cake into the air and leave without paying for the order.

Bloomfield Township, MI — The Kroger customer accused of "drop-kicking" her son’s birthday cake in the store because she was dissatisfied with the decorating job is being charged with a misdemeanor.

The Detroit Free Press reports that Tricia Ann Kortes, 46, of Bloomfield Township, is scheduled for a June 29 arraignment hearing in 48th District Court on a charge of disorderly conduct. If convicted, Kortes could face up to 90 days in jail and/or a $500 fine.

Bloomfield Township Police Detective Sgt. John Weise said the citation was based on witness statements from customers and employees who saw Kortes "drop-kick" the cake into the air and then stomp over it before exiting the store without paying for the order.

In the original police report, Weise said the woman’s decision to take the cake and "drop kick" it “caused pieces of cake and frosting to be strewn about the bakery section of the store. The woman quickly left the store, kicking over a wet floor sign on her way out.”
