Open since July, Performance Bicycle strives to grow ties with the local cycling community.
Bicycler. Cycler. Biker.
No matter what you call yourself or how long you have been riding, the new Performance Bicycle store in Bloomfield Hills is prepared to serve your needs.
As the nation’s largest retailer of its kind, the store is a bike lover’s dream. Besides the obvious bicycles and helmets, there is also a wide selection of clothing, components, sports nutrition, hydration packs, shoes, tubes, tires and 3,000 other items in store, and another 10,000 online. Brands include top manufacturers Pearl Izumi, Shimano, Michelin, Bell, Fuji, Schwinn and Focus.

Making its start inside the North Carolina basement of Garry and Sharon Snook nearly 30 years ago, Performance Bicycle now boasts 105 stores in 18 states. The grand opening of the Bloomfield Hills location in July coincided with the launch of a Novi store, the chain's third in Michigan.
“Earlier this year, we opened our inaugural Michigan store in Ann Arbor, and we are very pleased to welcome additional locations to our Midwest portfolio,” said David Pruitt, Performance Bicycle's CEO.

The local store received a positive welcome from many cyclists and designated clubs in the area, said District Manager Beth Shaheen.
“Bloomfield Hills has a very active cycling community that we’re excited to be a part of, and we look forward to becoming more and more involved with,” Shaheen said. “The store is in a very central location, offering all of our great value-driven products and services to all the surrounding cycling communities.”
Performance Bicycle officials claim the store is a notch above its competitors in terms of selection, value and service. A special ship-to-store option allows customers to order an item online and have it shipped directly to the nearest store, with all items more than $50 shipped for free.
The store’s Spin Doctor Repair and Customization service comprises trained technicians who will repair any bike, regardless of where it was purchased. Some common services include tuneups, complete overhauls, install upgrades and changing flat tires. The expert staff is also available as a resource for cyclists’ questions on bike selection and riding technique.
Other perks include a children's bike growth guarantee that offers discounts on new bikes when children outgrow their old ones, and a Team Performance Buyer's Club that offers 10 percent back on every purchase and other exclusive offers.
“Above everything else, we make sure that our customers know that cycling is just plain fun,” said Shaheen. “It’s a great way to stay fit and active, and it’s very green and social.”
No matter your level of activity, terrain or knowledge of riding, Performance Bicycle encourages all enthusiasts to stop by. The store expresses a desire to help grow this sport that helps bring families and friends together. The 20 associates at the Bloomfield Hills store strive to understand all customers' individual needs and guide them to the bike and gear suited just for them.
“Whether you’ve been riding for 20 years or decided 20 minutes ago that you wanted to get into cycling, we have the knowledge and experience to help you find the products you need to make your ride great," said Shaheen.
Performance Bicycle is located at 2067 S. Telegraph Rd. and is open from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday and from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. For more information, visit the store’s website or call 248-874-1092.
