Woman, 25, heard her other child call out and stopped her vehicle, but not in time to avoid hitting the child, the sheriff's office said.

PONTIAC, MI — A 5-year-old boy died in Pontiac Wednesday afternoon after his mother accidentally ran over him with her car, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said.

The 25-year-old woman was northbound on Kettering Avenue near Newman Court about 4:45 p.m. when she heard her other child call out to her, according to a news release.

She slowed her 2006 Chevrolet Uplander to a stop and “felt a thump,” the sheriff’s office said. “She exited her vehicle and found that she had run over her 5-year-old son.”
