The Michigan Senate could vote Tuesday on sweeping changes to the state’s energy policy, which critics have said could derail an electric “choice” program that businesses, schools and other customers say saves them money, The Detroit News reports.

Under the legislation, a 10 percent renewable energy mandate will be replaced with flexible “goal” of a 35 percent renewable energy and waste reduction by 2025.

The Mackinac Policy Conference, the Detroit Regional Chamber’s annual confab, takes place Tuesday through Friday. It’s unclear how many lawmakers will be there because House Speaker Kevin Cotter, R-Mount Pleasant, has ordered sessions on pending legislation.
