2 Hamburg Township Homes Fully Engulfed in Flames, All Residents Accounted For

Two homes were fully destroyed by fire on Ore Lake Saturday evening. All of the residents are believed to be okay.

The first 911 calls were made sometime around 6:12pm, but the homes were completely engulfed by 6:30pm on Saturday evening. These two Hamburg Township homes on the corner of Lagoon Dr. and Riverside Dr. were doused with water pulled from the Huron River and Ore Lake for some time. Both the Green Oak and Hamburg Township fire departments were on scene to control the blaze.

The fire destroyed both homes completely, leaving only a brick wall standing. According to neighbors, one home owner was out of town and the family living in the other home was able to get out okay. There were reports of an 'explosion' in the garage of the larger brick home, starting the fire. The Hamburg Township fire department is currently investigating what could have caused the fire, and possible explosions.

Neighbors were seen on their roofs putting out 'flying hots' that were posing a threat to their homes. There was also visible damage to a home directly across the street where the siding had melted. The fire cut the electric service to one of the homes, and damaged neighboring power lines. Electric service to the surrounding neighborhoods was shut off for about 30 minutes while the damaged power line was removed from the ground.
