The Greater Sandhill Crane, often recognized as the oldest living bird species, has a wingspan eclipsing 6 feet. In large numbers soaring at twilight they are a stunning sight.
Bring your own kayak or canoe to this popular free paddling event sponsored by the Sierra Club Crossroads Group.
We’ll meet in the parking area at the intersection of Green and Cohoctah roads at 4 PM. The boat launch is a short walk down the path from the parking area.
Together we’ll paddle to view migrating Sandhill cranes up close as they gather on an island in Bennett Lake in preparation for their 1,000 mile southward journey. (It is possible for walkers to enjoy views of these birds from a vantage point just a short hike from the launch area.)
