Art, Books and Blogs

"Art + Words," my current solo show at the First Presbyterian Church of Brighton, is about books and blogs as well as art, or as a complement of art, or as a seamless transition between the visual and written arts. Seamless or seem-less? According to the dictionary, seem is an intransitive verb meaning to appear to be something or to do something, and used with it to make a statement about what appears to be true based on what is known. It gives the impression of being. The student dictionary adds that it means to appear to a person's own mind or opinion. If you think about it too long, it gets very confusing, like most things. "Art + Words" all seems to be art. If it is seem-less, is it real? If it is real,  then it IS seem-less. Judge for yourself through June 19 at First Presbyterian Church, 300 East Grand River in Brighton, open during office hours from 9 to 3:30 weekdays, and during church activity hours. Feel free to turn on the gallery lights at either end of the show if the clerestory windows aren't bright enough for you; just remember to turn them off to conserve energy when you leave. And by the way, if you like altered books, I am teaching a session on them at the Cromaine District Library at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 13 as part of Break Out the Books Day. It will be at the Village location, 3688 N. Hartland Road in Hartland. Go to http://www.cromaine.org/ or www.artistpeggynbrewer.com
