BHS Hockey All-Star

When Grant Gabriel isn’t in the classroom he’s on the ice. Grant is an exceptional hockey player. He has played since he was in the second grade and only 8 years old. He started on some small little league teams. He quickly realized how much he loved the sport and started to play with more competitive, AAA, travel teams. And most recently, one of his biggest accomplishments, he played for the USA National team. Although he has so much skill on the ice, most people would not know. He is a very humble person, and not only that, he is kind and a great big brother and role model.
“I love Hockey, but family will always be the most important to me”, Gabriel said.
Grant was born and raised in Michigan and has one brother. His family has always been an important factor in his hockey accomplishments.
“My family has helped me tremendously through my hockey career. They have always been my biggest fans and are always there to support me”, Gabriel said.
Grant has achieved many amazing things throughout his hockey career. In 2011 his AAA Travel team, Compuware, won the state championship title. Even more impressive than that, Grant went to the World Hockey Tournamnet in Slovakia this winter with his USA National team. Grant and his team went on to win the whole tournament, becoming the best team of his age group in the world.
"It was an unforgettable moment. Just incredible. I wouldn't trade it for anything and it will be a life-long story that I will be able to tell", Gabriel said.
To be this good at a sport is outstanding. He is skilled at almost every aspect of the game and would seem to be at the peak of his career.
“My strengths would probably be my vision on the ice and my ability to make smart and precise decisions with the puck. But there is always room for improvement. I will keep working until I reach my goal”, Gabriel said.
Grant has accomplished so much yet it is not enough for him. Grant is planning on going to Western Michigan University to play hockey and is hoping to play in the NHL and one day play in the Olympics for USA.
Although Grant is known for hockey, he is also a very intelligent person. He is always very busy with hockey, even missing school for it, but still somehow achieves a 4.0 grade point average. Grant is a true scholar athlete and is a great example to show that anyone can achieve their goal.
