Brighton High celebrates Pink Week
Brighton High continues to bring attention to cancer and help raise funds for research in their annual Pink Week fundraiser.
BHS annual Pink Week ran from October 17th to the 21st. Every year the students and staff raise money for breast cancer awareness with a variety of activities and fundraisers. To start off the week, the students have their junior versus senior powderpuff game Monday at 7:00 pm followed by the pink walk/run, and the survivor walk at Friday nights football game for the survivors of breast cancer.
During all lunches there were multiple fundraisers and raffles set up to donate money to all different types of cancers all week long. Four students have decided to shave their heads if the jar with their name on it raises at least 500 dollars.
“This week most people have donated towards the raffle tickets and the haircut jars which should help a lot,” senior Austin Ford said.

Throughout the week most students at Brighton High School dress up and wear all pink to school. This is the students’ way of showing their spirit and dedication to Pink Week. Dressing up is also very fun for the kids and makes this week more enjoyable.
“My favorite part of Pink Week is probably all of the events leading up to the game on Friday because everyone is all pinked out and having fun,” Ford said.

This year the students and staff are not only raising money for breast cancer, but for all different types of cancers such as Lung cancer, Brain cancer, Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and many more. This is a new change that students have made this year in hope to raise more money. This allows for more studies for cures and medicines for these cancers. Last year Brighton High School raised 15,000 dollars from Pink Peek.
“This year we hope to meet the amount of money we raised last year or exceed that amount,” teacher Arnella Parks said.
Not only are there fundraisers, but The Paw also sold many cool pink things in the store. There were pink socks, shirts, and a bunch of fun accessories for the students to buy. This gives the students a chance to join in on the fun of Pink Week and wear pink around the school.
“Most people have bought the Pink long sleeve t-shirts for spirit week and so many people have bought them that we are all sold out, which is awesome,” senior Cameron Williams said.
Lots of cancer survivors come out and participate in these activities. There are also many students with parents that are either battling cancer or have had in in the past, along with staff members that have been diagnosed.
Note: At the time The BHS Times went to print, donations have already amounted to over $15,000. Congrats Brighton Area Schools!
