Crosswalk Construction in Downtown Brighton to Begin July 31

In-ground crosswalk lights will be removed along Main Street in Brighton beginning July 31, 2017.

As the City of Brighton prepares for the delivery of the new enhanced pedestrian signs, construction will begin July 31, 2017 with the removal of the in-ground crossing lights. The lights were selected for removal due to frequent outages and maintenance issues. The in-ground lights being removed are along Main Street.

The City of Brighton’s Department of Public Works (DPW) will be removing the lights and temporarily filling the holes with asphalt. Once all lights are removed, DPW will fill the holes with cement to match the aesthetic of the street and crosswalk. The City of Brighton thanks you for your patience during this transition.

Please be alert and courteous as you travel down Main Street. The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) is partnering with local governments to engage communities in safety education. SEMCOG’s Walk. Bike. Drive. Safe campaign provides safety tips as well as explanations of state laws, infrastructure, and signage. Tips include:
