Grease Hits Brighton High School Stage

Spring has sprung and cruising at lightning speed right around the corner is BHS’ very own production of Grease, coming to the BCPA, available for all varieties of ages to come together and enjoy.

With consecutive months filled with daily attributions by the devoted staff, cast, and dedicated behind the scenes crew members. They learned everything possible about their characters; and began the difficult task of channeling their assigned roles in a way no other musical teacher could have thought to be possible.

With the intense practices lead with the guidance of the one and only talented Michelle Holowicki, alongside her husband Josh Holowicki, and choir teacher Phillp Johnson; together they managed to bring to their audience an original, yet classic take on the vintage 1971 play production of Grease tied together with classic movie features.

“We tried to stick with the Broadway script as much as possible, but add a lot of elements of the movie, including a lot of songs from the movie that don’t appear in the original script.  We tried to represent the movie as much as we could with characterization, costumes, and choreography,” M. Holowicki said.

Not only did the cast, crew, and directors contribute an unruly amount of hours from their busy schedules into making this play what it is today, but many other staff members and students contributed their time to the long and tiring process of making this production a success. The Auto Maintenance class especially, contributing weekly class routines into fixing up the grease lightning mobile for the production.

With all of the help on and off the records, Brightons’ production of Grease was set to take stage. With opening scene introduced with the two fantastically casted leads, and the beautifully direected chorus and dancers, audience as well as myself knew that this production could only go uphill from that moment, and that it did.

“This has been the smoothest production i’ve been a part of yet. I feel like this year has been incredibly organized and it truly paid off by all the people that attended and enjoyed it as much as we had,” Junior, Claire Snyder said

Grease: The Musical has been an outrageously successful performance, yet again brought to us by the talented performing arts students and crew. With another years’ production behind us once again, we can only imagine what they’ll surprise us with for proceeding years that will soon come to the BCPA.
