Manhattan Short Film Festival At Brighton District Library (whmi.com) — Brighton District Library is hosting free screenings of the global Manhattan Short Film Festival, giving you three chances this weekend and next Tuesday to watch and vote on ten international short films. No registration is required, ballots decide worldwide winners, and all films are Academy Award–qualifying, making this an easy, high-quality night out close to home. 
2. Brighton Brings Stars Hollow to Life for Its Third Annual 'Gilmore Girls' Festival (hourdetroit.com) — Downtown Brighton is transforming into "Stars Hollow" this weekend with the third annual Destination Starz Hollow festival, bringing TV cast members, themed events, and big crowds on September 26–27. Local shops are reimagined as Gilmore Girls landmarks, with free entry to festival grounds and paid options for actor Q&As, coffee dates, and meet-and-greets that have already drawn tens of thousands in past years.
3. Green Oak roundabouts rank as most-dangerous intersection in county (thelivingstonpost.com) — Several Brighton intersections rank among Livingston County's most crash-prone, including Grand River at I-96, Challis at Cinema, and Grand River at Whitmore Lake Road. Using 2025 Michigan State Police data, the report highlights where most local collisions occur, helping drivers better understand and potentially avoid the county's most dangerous spots on their daily routes.
4. Michigan State Police program offers treatment instead of handcuffs for addiction (wnem.com) — Residents near Brighton can now seek addiction help directly at the local Michigan State Police post through the Angel Program, which offers treatment connections instead of arrest for possession or use. Participants are paired with volunteer "angels" who guide them into recovery services, reflecting a statewide shift toward treating addiction as a health issue rather than only a crime.
5. Beverly Ann Heruska (iredellfreenews.com) — A local connection to Brighton comes through Virginia Ann Young and her fiancé, Michael J. Saunders of Brighton, who are among the survivors of Beverly Ann Heruska, 79, of Statesville, North Carolina. Heruska, a devoted homemaker and community volunteer, died September 19, with services planned in Statesville on Sunday, September 27.
