Sports Spotlight: Brighton Boys Lacrosse

• PLAYERS TO WATCH AND WHY: Brighton features senior leaders at all positions. Johnnie Clifford and Nick Yuhasz lead at attack; Spencer Macek, Ryan Schneeman and Nathan Hoffman lead at midfield; and, on defense, Jeff Dunachik and Spencer Evans lead the way. Senior goalie Ryan Mailloux has signed to play at Siena Heights next year.
• RECORDS: Team is 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the KLAA West so far this season. Last year, squad finished 13-5 and lost in regional semifinals to Holt in double overtime.
• TEAM GOAL: Advance further in the playoffs.
• COACH: Charlie Estey is in this third year as head coach and seventh overall with the program.
• COACH QUOTE: "We bolstered our out-of-league schedule with teams like (Detroit) Catholic Central, Ann Arbor Pioneer, Okemos, Cranbrook and a couple of schools from Grand Rapids," Estey said. "It will help us become more familiar with the better teams in the state so when we enter the playoffs we'll know what to expect."
• PLAYER QUOTE: "It stung," said Spencer Macek about last year's loss to Holt. "We're trying to use the feeling after that loss as momentum."
