Sylvan Twp: Regular Board Meeting Synopsis 9/8/26 (thesuntimesnews.com) — Sylvan Township's latest board meeting at the Old US-12 hall in Chelsea approved several ordinances affecting farmland preservation, fertilizer use on waterfront properties, and local waterways and open space rules. Officials also greenlit major repairs to the township water plant and hall ventilation system, and moved ahead with leasing plans for Cedar Lake Camp. 2. WAVE Announces Fiscal Year 2027 Service and Fare Updates, Effective October 1, 2026 (thesuntimesnews.com) — Starting Oct. 1, Chelsea riders will see the Chelsea Community Ride buses coming every 30 minutes, still free, but with new deviation options and adjusted door‑to‑door hours. WAVE is also updating fares, adding Deviation Zones across several routes, and encouraging residents—especially seniors and city riders—to use fixed and deviated routes to keep service frequent and sustainable.
3. Silver Maples of Chelsea Invites the Community to 18th Annual Harvest Art Market (thesuntimesnews.com) — Chelsea residents are invited to the 18th Annual Harvest Art Market at Silver Maples of Chelsea on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with free admission and parking. You can browse work from more than 20 local artisans, enjoy a community bake sale that supports student scholarships, and get a head start on holiday shopping, all indoors at 100 Silver Maples Drive.
4. Plan for 172 homes, 2 medical office buildings under review in Chelsea (mlive.com) — City officials in Chelsea are weighing a 172‑home Wolf Farm development with two medical office buildings on North Freer Road, near Chelsea High School and Pierce Lake Early Childhood Center. Planners postponed a vote while seeking design revisions, as nearby residents raise concerns about traffic, lighting, drainage, and school‑area safety, and officials discuss how new families could influence future school use.
5. Trinity Health Chelsea Hospital nurses join growing unionization push (freep.com subscription) — Nurses at Trinity Health Chelsea Hospital have officially unionized with the Michigan Nurses Association, becoming the hospital's first labor union and preparing to negotiate their first contract. Local nurses describe staffing pressures, wage competition with nearby systems, and concerns about patient care, while statewide health‑care union membership continues to grow despite overall declines in Michigan unionization.
