What Speedskating on Lake Michigan Ice Looks Like

Speedskater April Chernoby, 32, took to the ice of Lake Michigan for an incredible skatealong the shoreline at speeds up to 20 mph last week. “For a brief window of opportunity last week the lake was like glass,” the Grand Rapids, MI, woman told WZZM. This YouTube video of her skate was shot near Grand Haven. The ice was 7 inches thick.

“It was incredible,” Chernoby told the Chicago Tribune. She’s a member of the West Michigan Speedskating Club. “To be able to skate along icebergs and the lighthouse is really a once in a lifetime experience.”
