Clawson righted the ship with a win on the road Thursday over Warren Fitzgerald, it was only its second win in the last six meets.
The Trojans beat Fitzgerald 6-2. In No. 1 doubles Kaitlynn Sikora and Stephanie Tennis won in two sets 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 and Sarah Allen won in two sets in No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-3. The squad's two losses came in No. 4 singles (Jenna Ziegler) and No. 4 doubles (Alexis Kent, Jennifer Nolan).
Girls Varsity Softball
The young Trojans squad continues to take some lumps as it gains more valuable experience. The girls lost to Grosse Pointe South on Friday 28-3 and on Thursday to Clintondale 12-8.
May 5— The Trojans varsity tennis team went to Centerline on Wednesday and came home with a 4-4 tie. After opening the season 3-0, the girls are 1-2-2 in their last five games.
Clawson won three of the four singles matches, but the team struggled in doubles. In the three doubles losses, Centerline outscored the Trojans by a combined score of 36 sets to 7. Lizzie Thornton and Dandielle Biskner won the No. 3 doubles match in three seats (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) over Courtney Domijan and Brittany Morrell. Domijan was the only freshman on the Centerline team.
Sarah Allen in No. 1 singles beat Jennifer Westermann in two sets (6-3, 6-2) and her senior teammates Olivia Stenzel and Laura Clissold won in two sets as well (6-3, 6-3 in both matches).
The girls won’t have much rest this week, they don’t have a day off until Sunday. They go to Warren Fitzgerald on Thursday (4 p.m.), Marine City on Friday (5 p.m.) and then in the Daily Tribune Tournament at Royal Oak on Saturday (8 a.m.).
May 4— Clawson sports teams had three days of good weather before more rain hit the area on Tuesday.
The Trojans had to cancel two more varsity events - the baseball game at East Detroit and the tennis match at Warren Fitzgerald. It was the second time in a week that the Trojans game against East Detroit was affected by weather.
The forecast looks good for Wednesday and Thursday, but Friday could be a problem. There’s a 60 percent chance of rain and Friday just so happens to be the busiest day of the week for the Trojans. The only varsity teams that don’t have a game or meet scheduled are the track and golf teams.
Varsity Baseball
The Trojans baseball team had a 13 day layoff because of all the cancellations this spring. And while the temperatures warmed up a bit for the team’s games on Saturday and Monday, Clawson’s bats didn’t. The Trojans were shut out in both games.
On Saturday they lost 2-0 at Berkley and then again in a conference game at home on Monday 4-0 to Madison Heights.
In the game on Monday, Clawson had only three hits and only reached base in the game four times. Madison Heights picked up two runs in the top half of the first and that would have been all they needed. The team added two more runs in the third inning.
Clawson plays Madison Heights again in two weeks on May 18 on the road (4:30 p.m.). This week they have a game at Center Line on Wednesday (4:30 p.m.) and then a double-header on Friday at home against Pontiac Academy of Excellence (4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.).
