Wrestling Team Ends Season at Individual Regionals
The six Clawson High School wrestlers that qualified for Individual Regionals competed this weekend in Richmond; team ends season 28-8 overall
The wrestling team ended their season on Saturday, losing in the final match of Individual Regionals held in Richmond. Six qualifying wrestlers competed on Saturday.
"We had individual regionals Saturday but none of the six made it out to the state regionals," Coach Keil Jorgensen said."Mike Francis and Stefanos Theodorpolis both lost in the blood round. Francis beat Ray Murawski of Imlay City 2-1 to reach the blood round and Stefanos had a bye."
Jorgensen said the blood round is the final match before the championships. You win you go to state finals, you lose you go home.

"This past Wednesday we had team regionals and we beat Flat Rock in the semi-finals, 45-36," Jorgensen said. The team wasn't so fortunate when it faced No. 1 ranked Dundee and lost 84-0. The top ranked team also beat Livonia Clarenceville by the exact same score.
Clawson finished the season as a top 16 team in the state for Division III. Team goals for this year "were to improve throughout the season and peak as wrestlers at the right time and I believe we did that," Jorgensen said. "With such a young program our standards can't be measured by wins and losses."
The coach said his team "went out there and wrestled better each match and that had to do with team unity and of course, tough practices."
The young team embraced the coach's system and made the most of it, according to Jorgensen.
"To have a program in two years become district champs and top 16 in the state is amazing," he said. "We were 28-8 overall this year."
The team graduates three seniors this year, Mike Francis, Rod Grant and Kevin Cunningham but has two freshman, six sophomores and two juniors to continue building from for the next season.
