Chase Ends in Gunfire in Clinton Township

Three Fraser police officers have been placed on administrative leave while Clinton Township police investigate chase.

Updated at 1:01 p.m. CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI — A suspect accused of fleeing from police and ramming patrol cars to get away was shot in the head by a Fraser police officer around 4:12 a.m. Wednesday after a chase that ended in Clinton Township, according to media reports.

A slow speed chase that began in Fraser ended with gunshots at 15 Mile and Kelley roads in Clinton Township, WWJ reported. The late-model red Ford Mustang was boxed in by several Fraser police cars, leading to traffic congestion in the area.

The Detroit Free Press said the three Fraser officers who were involved in the case were placed on administrative leave while Clinton Township police investigate the incident.

The suspect, a 26-year-old Clinton Township man, is hospitalized in intensiv care at McLaren Hospital.

Clinton Township Police Capt. Richard Maierle told the Free Press that the suspect refused to pull over when Fraser attempted to stop his vehicle. It's unclear why police attempted to stop the vehicle.

"The guy comes out onto Kelley. They box him in and he repeatedly rams the car (into patrol cars), at which time the Fraser officer fired three shots," Maierle said. "I don't know what made him suspicious ... It's not clear. He just went to stop him and he took off."

In another tweet, WWJ’s Raj Roop said the suspect has been identified as Enzo Evalngelista.
