Clinton Township Trustees Approve Improvements to Hall Road

Last to join the party, township's nearly $100,000 in upgrades will be made primarily to safety.

(Originally published on Dec. 15, 2016) CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI — Clinton Township is joining Utica, Shelby Township, Sterling Heights and Macomb Township in making safety a bigger priority on Hall Road, the Fraser-Clinton Township Chronicle is reporting. At a recent meeting, the Clinton Township Board of Trustees approved a $98,000 project to add stamped crosswalks to well-traveled M-59 corridor.

The improvements will be made from Mound Road to Romeo Plan Road, Clinton Township Supervisor Bob Cannon said. Originally, the project was slated to go from Mound to Hayes Road. Now, since money was procured, the overhaul will extend farther.

The crosswalks are needed to improve safety, but Trustee Ken Pearl questioned the cost and asked Police Chief Fred Posavetz if crosswalks or traffic signals are responsible for the number of accidents that occur on Hall Road.

“The most frequency is for rear-end accidents, which leads us to believe those are distracted drivers because of the stop-and-go traffic, because of the volume of traffic,” Posavetz said.

The Board of Trustees approved only crosswalks, rejecting mast arm signals to keep the costs down. Doing so shaved about $260,000 from the project.
