Macomb County Veterans Service Tax Increase on Aug. 2 Primary Ballot
About 54,000 military vets get services from the Veterans Services Department, which says it needs another worker to keep up with demand.
MACOMB COUNTY, MI — Voters in Macomb County will be asked to approve a .029 mill increase to support the Veterans Services Department in the Aug. 2 primary.
Nearly 54,000 military veterans living in the county receive benefits from the Macomb County Veterans Services Department, and the increase will fund an additional employee to process requests for pensions and disability assistance, according to The Macomb Daily.
“A .029-mill increase will provide needed services for the veterans of Macomb County at very little cost to taxpayers. There are some very important reasons why this millage must be approved, not the least of which are the addition of another service officer and increased outreach within the county,” Brian Bobek, president of Chapter 154 of Vietnam Veterans of America said.

The Veterans Services Department also processes applications for death, educational and vocational rehabilitation benefits, medical care insurance and indemnities. Officials have said the increase is necessary to help more vets.
“Please plan on voting ‘yes’ on this millage and encourage your friends and other voters to do the same,” Bobek said. “County veterans endorse this millage as the needs are greater than ever. Without this increase, veterans services cannot expand to meet the increasing needs.”
