The suspects – Omar Shabazz Truelove, 19; Devon Martell Grier, 18; and Miguel Patrick Stiger, 19, all of Detroit – were arrested, according to a news release from the Dearborn Police Department.
In the first instance at about midnight on March 20, a man saw a suspicious vehicle driving up and down the street in the area of Middlepointe, south of Warren Avenue. The driver of the vehicle stopped near the complainant’s neighbor’s vehicle, which was parked in the street.

The complainant went to investigate, and the suspicious vehicle drove away. He saw a man, later identified as Truelove, sitting behind the driver’s vehicle of the Honda and asked him what he was doing. The suspect shifted the car into reverse and struck the witness with the door of the car, causing injuries.
Police said Trulove fled southbound on Middlepointe in the Honda at a high rate of speed, and subsequently lost control at Warren and Pinehurst, traveling over the curb and onto the sidewalk.
Truelove was taken into custody shortly after crashing the vehicle.
At the same time, other Dearborn officers located an occupied Chevy Malibu which had been stolen in Dearborn on March 11. They were able to determine that this vehicle was used to transport Truelove in his efforts to allegedly steal the Honda.
The driver of the stolen Honda was identified as Grier. The passenger, Stiger, was also arrested after police determined that Grier and Stiger had attempted to aid Truelove in extricating the stolen Honda from the crash site just before police arrived.
Truelove, Stiger and Grier were arraigned on Saturday, March 21, before Judge Vesta Svenson.
Truelove was charged with carjacking and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder Stiger was charged with accessory after the fact, and Grier was charged with carjacking and receiving and concealing stolen property.
All three men are being held on $10,000 cash bond and must wear GPS tethers if they post bond.
Police Chief Ronald Haddad credited members of the public with helping police do their jobs.
“Through police/community cooperation, and the good work of our patrol officers, we were able to apprehend three men who were working in concert to steal cars,” Hddad said. “Two stolen cars were recovered and three suspects will face justice thanks to the quick action of an alert resident. Residents are always encouraged to say something when they see something out of the ordinary.”
