Big Read Dearborn Offers Night's Stay at Local Poe House

Actor Helen Uff will portray Edgar Allan Poe at Saturday's wrap-up event for Big Read Dearborn.

DEARBORN, MI – Dearborn is wrapping up its Big Read celebration Saturday with an event that gives residents a chance to to back in time and hear the words of one of America’s most cherished writers, Edgar Allan Poe.

Poe won’t be there in person, of course, but actor Helen Uff will portray him and share his eerie words from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Henry Ford Centennial Library.

Uff, who has flown all over the country to portray Poe, serves as a park ranger at the Poe House in Philadelphia, PA.

During the wrap-up celebration, a drawing will be held for a free night at the Dearborn Inn’s Poe House, a replica of Poe’s famous home at Fordham in New York City, where the author wrote “The Bells,” “Annabelle Lee,” Ulalume” and Eureka.

A draft of the book of Poe inspired stories and poems, “Dreaming Dreams No Mortal Ever Dared to Dream Before,” will be ready, so the Dearborn writers who contributed to it can take a sneak peek.
