Big Read Dearborn Features Detective, Forensics Artist Tuesday
More activities are planned with Big Read Dearborn than you ever imagined.

DEARBORN, MI – If you thought all there is to Big Read Dearborn was a study of the collected works of 19th Century poet, mystery and suspense author Edgar Allan Poe, you couldn’t be more wrong.
A full calendar of events includes everything from wine-tasting event and pub crawl to a Whoodunnit Mystery and a lecture by a forensics detective.

The Big Read Dearborn kickoff was Feb. 6 at Henry Ford Centennial Library, and special activities last through March. A full schedule of events and ticketing information are found on bigreaddearborn.org, but some of the highllghts of the series are:
Tuesday, Feb. 16, 7-8:30 p.m., Henry Ford Centennial Library: Detective Sarah Kregs is an experienced forensic artist who creates both drawings and 3-D re-creations to solve crimes. Experience her presentation, reflecting Poe’s interest in detective writing.

Wednesday, Feb. 24, 7-11 p.m., Poe Pub Crawl at Dearborn Brewing, 21930 Michigan Ave. and Bailey’s, 22091 Michigan Ave.: Have a Poe-inspired drink while discussing the author’s works.
Wednesday, March 2,6-7 p.m., Henry Ford Centennial Library: “Medicine, Mental Illness and the Macabre.” Expert panelists discuss the descriptions of medicine and psychology in Poe’s writing.
Friday, March 4, 6-8 p.m., Henry Ford Centennial Library: “Cask of Amontillado Wine Tasting.” Tickets are $15 for light hors d’oeuvres and a variety of fine wines. Space is limited.
Saturday, March 5, 10-noon, Henry Ford Centennial Library: Dream Interpretation. Presenter takes an approach that focuses on dream appreciation.
Friday, March 11, 6-8:30 p.m., Henry Ford Centennial Library: “Whodunnit at the Library.” Help solve a mystery at the library in this interactive night of entertainment and enjoy a dinner buffet, beer and wine. Tickets are $30 or $50 a couple. Ages 21 and over.
Tuesday, March 15, 6-7 p.m.,Arab American National Museum, 13624 Michigan Ave.: Using Poe’s poem “Al Aaraaf” as a focal point, the presenter will explore Poe’s interest in Arab and Islamic literature.
Saturday, March 19,2-4 p.m., Henry Ford Centennial Library: Wrap Up Event – Meet Poe! An actor will present Poe “in the flesh.”
A big part of The Big Read includes crafts for children throughout February and March, as well as Poe-themed movies and many other discussions and events.
The Big Read is managed by Arts Midwest, and is a One Book One Community program of the National Endowment for the Arts.
