Body Pulled from Rouge River Believed to Be Man Who Tried to Save Woman
A 27-year-old Plymouth man jumped into the rain-swollen Rouge River to help save a woman from drowning on May 13.
Dearborn police think the body of a man pulled from the Rouge River Tuesday is that of a 27-year-old Plymouth man who jumped into the fast current to save a woman from drowning on May 13.
The body was discovered about 11 a.m. a short distance from the University of Michigan-Dearborn campus, where the missing man is a student, the Detroit Free Press reports. Police did not release his name in a statement. The man’s body was turned over to his family.
A 23-year-old Dearborn Heights woman, who was not identified, was rescued about 100 yards south of the Henry Ford Estates, where witnesses first saw the pair struggling. She was treated at a nearby hospital for a non-life-threatening injury.

Dearborn Police, assisted by the Michigan State Police and the Downriver Mutual Aid Dive Team, discovered the man’s body.
In the statement, Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said the police department “expresses our condolences to the victims of this tragedy including the student’s family and University of Michigan Community.”
