The Henry Ford Centennial Library will reopen to the public on Tuesday, Oct. 20 with limited hours and COVID-19 safety precautions in place. Henry Ford Centennial Library, the city’s main library, had been closed since May 2019 for extensive renovations and for an additional time due to the pandemic.
Opening to the public is a significant milestone, said Library Director Maryanne Bartles.

“We have been doing a good job of serving the public via curbside pickup and through all of our robust online and digital resources,” Bartles said. “And now we are glad to resume our in-person services in a cautious and reasonable way. We know residents have been waiting to come back, and with strict protocols, we are ready to welcome them.”
Curbside pickup will also continue at Centennial for those who don’t want to enter the building.

Patrons can visit Centennial at the following times, which match the curbside pickup hours:
• Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 2 – 6 p.m.
• Saturday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Patrons are asked to remain in the building for one hour or less. Only the second floor will be open to the public. Group study rooms and individual study booths will not be available.
In addition, the public needs to be aware of the following protocols designed to keep employees and patrons safe:
• Patrons must stop at the Welcome Desk to complete a health screening form and have their temperatures checked.
• Masks covering the nose and mouth must be worn at all times. Vented masks are not acceptable.
• Patrons not belonging to the same household should remain 6 feet apart at all times. Family groups visiting should consist of no more than three persons.
• Patrons may browse the shelves, checkout library material, or use a public computer (the number of available computers is very limited).
• Patrons should continue to return all material to the outside drop box at Centennial so that it can easily be quarantined before being recirculated.
