Chief Praises Citizens for Stopping Gunman at Dental Office
Patient taken into custody after he threatened a dentist with a pistol during a dispute over billing.

A 73-year-old Dearborn man was quickly taken into custody Thursday morning after his gun discharged in a local dental office Thursday morning in a dispute over charges.
The man, whose name has not been released, fired a pistol once, the Dearborn Police Department said in a statement. No one was injured.
The incident happened at 9:10 a.m. at the Advanced Dental Clinic, 14639 Ford Road. The suspect entered the billing area, drew a pistol and threatened a resident dentist.

A dental employee and others in the office subdued the suspect after a struggle, according to the statement.
Police Chief Ron Haddad said quick action by a dental office and citizens waiting for their appointments prevented a more serious outcome. An employee grabbed the man, then patients assisted in subduing him and wrangling the gun, which discharged during the struggle.

“If it were not for the quick actions of the citizens involved, this incident could have been a tragedy,” Haddad said.
The matter is under investigation and the results will be forwarded to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for determination of criminal charges.
