Christmas Comes Early at Shop With a Hero Event

Dearborn police and fire departments teamed in the annual event to make sure needy kids have Christmas presents.

DEARBORN, MI – Christmas came early to about 40 Dearborn students on Thursday morning at the Dearborn Walmart.

The children participated in the annual Shop with a Hero event where they were paired with an officer from the City of Dearborn Police Department or firefighter from the Fire Department.

Each child then got to go on a free shopping spree through the store with their hero-for-the-day. After making their purchases, the kids watched their gifts being wrapped and enjoyed some fruit, doughnut or other treat.

The event is sponsored by the Dearborn Police Charity and the Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive.

Children were nominated for the program by their school and then selected by the departments, who sponsor the event with assistance from Walmart.
