City's New Supermarket, Dearborn Fresh, Opens for Business
Dearborn Fresh opened for business Monday amidst hundreds of community members and leaders.
Dearborn was looking for a taste of something new, and they got it with the opening of Dearborn Fresh supermarket on Monday.
The new east end grocery store, owned by local brothers Dr. Fouad Turfah and Kamal Turfah, is located off of Schaefer Road just north of Michigan Avenue. The Turfahs opened shop Monday to huge crowds hungry to get a taste of the city's newest market.
"This represents a big turnaround," Mayor Jack O'Reilly said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. "It's clear that there's no need for concern. This building is going to be here for a long time and this business is offering something that really, everybody's been waiting for."

But Dearborn Fresh is much more than a grocery store. Inside, said Dr. Turfah, guests will find all halal meats, a full bakery, many organic and specialty goods, and a few surprises–like a second location for long-time Dearborn business , which will be selling its gourmet goods at Dearborn Fresh.
"To the customers: You are our ultimate partners, and we appreciate your trust and business," Dr. Turfah said. "Our main objective is to provide good quality and good customer service."

"What you saw today was impressive, but we will do better."
Turfah added that taking the store from idea to completion with his brother was a long process, but one that ended successfully–and it showed in the crowds that packed Dearborn Fresh on its first day.
"This idea crossed our minds over a year ago," Dr. Turfah said. "I never imagined that idea would manifest itself into such a beautiful facility. Kamal, my brother, job well done."
