Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive Pumpkin Patch Dates Announced

More than 45 years ago, Dearborn Firefighters Local 412 established a charity – Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive – to help children who have suffered the ravages of burn injuries.

Since then, the annual fundraising effort has raised more than $1 million to include provide financial help to their families who need to travel to burn centers, as well as burn prevention and fire safety education programs for children, parents and caregivers. Donations are also made to families seeking treatment for cancer or other diseases. Most donations are made to children, their families and hospitals, but in some extenuating circumstances, donations are made to adults.

The Pumpkin Patch at the fire station on Outer Drive north of Michigan Avenue will be open two weekends in next month to raise money. The patch is open from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 18-19 and Oct. 25-26.

All pumpkins are $5. Free hot dogs, cider, donuts, hot chocolate and coffee will. There will be plenty of family activities on site, including opportunities for children to climb on a fire truck, get their face painted, visit with a clown and see Sparky, the department’s mascot.
