Dearborn Police on Patrol Stop Burglary Attempt: Report

While on patrol early Friday morning, police noted the shattered window of a business and a suspect inside.

DEARBORN, MI – Dearborn police caught an alleged burglar in the act while on patrol early Friday morning, authorities said.

Two officers observed a shattered window at a business in the area of Tireman and Schaefer about 3:45 a.m., according to a news release from the Dearborn Police Department.

They observed a suspect — later identified as Henry Russell Johnson, 34, of Detroit — inside the business, set up a perimeter around the business and requested backup, according to the release. Johnson saw the police presence outside and tried to flee on foot, but surrendered after seeing an officer in the alley near the business.

“The quick action by officers resulted in the arrest of a subject wanted for a break in,” Police Chief Ronald Haddad said in the news release. “I commend these officers for their dedication to protecting our citizens and business owners alike.”

Johnson was charged with breaking and entering a building with intent and fourth offense habitual offender.

He was arraigned in 19th District Court by Judge Mark Somers, who set a personal bond of $5,000 with the requirement that he wear a GPS tether upon release.

Johnson’s probably cause conference is scheduled for 9 a.m. on April 22, and his preliminary exam is set for 9 a.m. on April 29.
