📰 News we're reading

• State gas prices drop 11 cents (wnmufm.org) — If you're filling up in Dearborn this week, you'll see some relief at the pump as Michigan's average gas price has dropped 11 cents to $4.16 per gallon. AAA says demand has eased and supplies ticked up, though prices remain well above last year, with Metro Detroit still averaging $4.21 for regular unleaded.

• Homesickness and loss in sound, from Detroit to Beirut: Layan Srour - CDM Create Digital Music (cdm.link) — Dearborn plays a central role in a new short film and the Jalasat performance series, both supported by the Arab American National Museum and the City of Dearborn, that spotlight Arab and diasporic artists. Centered on Detroit-based, Beirut-raised artist Layan Srour, the story explores homesickness, grief, and community-building through music, with monthly pop-up performances in local cafés and gathering spaces.

• A Man in a Full Spider-Man Costume Jumped on Far-Right Activist Jake Lang's Truck in Minneapolis, and the Internet Turned Him Into a Folk Hero (thoughtcatalog.com) — Dearborn is again in the national spotlight after far-right activist Jake Lang organized an anti-Muslim "Christian Crusade March" here on August 18, then appeared at a Dearborn City Council meeting. Days later in Minneapolis, a man in a Spider-Man costume confronted Lang at a rally, was arrested, and quickly became an online folk figure as supporters raised money for his legal costs.
