Dearborn Police Seek Speeding Driver Who Hit 2 Children, Injuring Them

Both young girls were rushed to Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroi​t, where they were expected to make a full recovery, police said.

DEARBORN, MI — Dearborn Police are looking for a white Pontiac Grand Prix that struck two children trying to cross a Dearborn street Sunday afternoon.

Police said the driver of the Grand Prix was speeding down Ross Street near Telegraph Road when he hit the two young girls. He then got out of the car for a moment to move the two injured girls from the street and then sped off, police said.

Surveillance video showed the the two girls, ages 5 and 7 holding hands while crossing the street when the drive struck them.

Both young girls were rushed to Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, where they were expected to make a full recovery, police said.

Police said witnesses described the driver of the Grand Prix as a male with a thin build wearing a white shirt and sunglasses. The white Grand Prix also appeared to have a temporary license tag in the upper left corner of the rear window.

"We have seen far too often how reckless driving can have deadly consequences," Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said. "Luckily, that was not the result of this situation. I urge the driver to do the right thing and come forward, otherwise we will use every tool at our disposal to identify and apprehend this individual."
