This time around, Dearborn was awarded the prestigious Gold Certification for updating the city’s forestry management plan, including a draft goal of 40 percent urban tree canopy.

Dearborn was honored at the Michigan Sustainability Conference on Nov. 20 and 21 in Lansing, hosted by the MGC and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy. Dearborn is one of just 10 communities awarded the Gold Certification.

The City of Dearborn also earned the Gold Certification honor in 2016.

MGC is a partnership between the Michigan Municipal League, Michigan Association of Counties, Michigan Townships Association, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes & Energy (EGLE), and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). The organization’s goal is to connect community leaders through training, education, communications, as well as through the MGC Challenge Program.
