Dearborn Toddler Dies of Injuries in 5-Car Pileup

The boy's 5-year-old brother is in critical condition. Twelve people were injured, and six others were hospitalized.

Okemos, MI — A 17-month-old Dearborn toddler has died of injuries sustained Wednesday in a multi-vehicle chain reaction crash on Interstate 96 near Okemos, and his 5-year-old brother is in critical condition, authorities said.

Authorities didn’t release the children’s names, but their family is from Dearborn, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press.



The accident occurred about 5 p.m. on Wednesday near the Okemos rest area, according to the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office.

A semi truck rear-ended a vehicle that had slowed down in the area of a one-vehicle rollover crash, starting a chain-reaction collision with four other vehicles.

Eight people were taken to area hospitals for treatment, and four others received minor injuries. The children were the only ones who received life-threatening injuries.
