Detroit is Kind of the Scrooge of Halloween
When it comes to Halloween, Detroit doesn't have much to offer, according to a new analysis.

Detroit offers more tricks than treats, according to a new study.
The personal finance website WalletHub recently released its 2015’s Best and Worst Cities for Halloween, and Detroit finished almost in the cellar, coming in at No. 98 just ahead of No. 100 St. Petersburg, FL, and No. 99 Memphis, TN.

Americans, including the more than 68 million Americans who are expected to buy costumes this Halloween, figure to spend $6.9 million on Halloween.
But that’s just not how Detroit rolls, according to WalletHub, which compared the 100 largest U.S. cities across 16 key metrics, ranging from the number of candy stores per capita to the average cost of a Halloween party ticket to the best and worst weather forecasts for Halloween to crime.

And that’s where Detroit lost favor. Though it lost the dubious distinction of the murder capital of the United States to St. Louis, Detroit’s violent crime rate is still the worst in the country, according to FBI crime statistics released earlier this month.
If there’s a silver lining there, it’s that Detroit ranked 92nd with its safety rating, above eight other cities. Take that Scottsdale, AZ (No. 100), St. Petersburg (No. 99), Atlanta, GA (No. 98), Memphis (No. 97), Orlando, FL (No. 96), St. Louis, MO (No. 95), Honolulu, HI (No. 94) and Tuscon, AZ (No. 93).
The cost of a Halloween party ticket also plummeted Detroit to the bottom of the list (only North Las Vegas, NV, Henderson, NV, and Hialeah, FL, were worse), but the city’s saving grace was the weather on Halloween, which ranked 62nd.
New York is the best city for Halloween, followed by Jersey City, NJ, Newark, NJ, Gilbert, AZ, Laredo, TX, Irving, TX, Santa Ana, CA, Garland, TX, Chandler, AZ, and Plano, TX.
