The following information was provided by DTE Energy regarding their project at Ford Field Park in Deaborn:

As part of ongoing natural gas pipeline upgrades that help us ensure safe and reliable service to our customers, DTE Energy will be conducting a flare operation and odorization test in the area of Cherry Hill/Ford Field Park as early as Friday, February 28.

If the schedule and weather does not align to conduct the flare on this date, it will likely be early the following week (the week of March 2).

Natural gas is safe, efficient, colorless and odorless. For easy detection, a harmless odorant (Mercaptan) is added to natural gas that makes leakages smell like rotten eggs.

This test is required to ensure adequate levels of odorant before activating the pipeline.

For the flare operation, tall steel stacks will be erected in the Ford Field Park parking lot near the Brady street entrance. Access to the park will be limited during the operation, which should take less than 24 hours to complete.
