(Originally published on Dec. 7, 2016) DEARBORN MI — The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. annual holiday, the third Monday in January, is often observed as day for community service. Students, faculty and staff from Henry Ford College and the University of Michigan-Dearborn are planning ahead, and looking for volunteers to assist in MLK service projects, The Press & Guide reported.

The holiday falls on Jan. 16, and volunteers from both schools will work with local agencies on various projects to honor the memory of the slain civil rights leader.

Agencies that need volunteers include ACCESS, Alternatives for Girls, Arts and Scraps, Beyond Basics, Fish and Loaves Community Food Pantry, Gleaners Food Bank (Detroit) and Michigan Urban Farming Initiative.
