Man Accused of Stabbing Brother Held on $1M Bond

Family members say they don't know why the man, who reportedly has mental health issues, was released from hospital.

A Dearborn man who allegedly stabbed his 9-year-old brother multiple times Monday evening was arraigned Wednesday and ordered held on $1 million bond.

Alaa Mohamad Daher, 20, is charged with assault to commit murder during his arraignment before Judge Mark Somers in 19th District Court.

Police arrested Daher a short distance away from the home in the 7700 block of Steadman Street, where the attack took place. He was cooperative, police said.

Police did not disclose what led to the attack, but a family friend told WJBK-TV that the brothers were playing with a football when Daher allegedly stabbed his younger brother in the back, neck, face and eye.

“Alaa started maybe joke or play with his brother not with football, but with a knife,” Dr. Dib Saab, a family friend, told the TV station. “Thinking he was playing.”

Ali Allacham, an uncle, said that Daher suffers from mental health problems and had been recently dismissed from the hospital.

“They called his family and told them to take him home,” Alhacham told the TV station. “But if you read the report from the doctor, it’s says he could fight someone or hurt himself.”

Saab told the TV station he doesn’t understand why Daher was released from the hospital.

“If you know this guy has this problem and he’s unsafe for his family why did you release him?” Saab said. “Why do you not continue treating him?”
