Metro Detroit Cop Fatally Shot, Shooter Arrested: Police
Police offered a $37,500 reward for information leading to the suspected shooter.
MELVINDALE, MI — A man accused of fatally shooting a Melvindale police officer in the line of duty was arrested Monday, according to police.
Police said officer Mohamed Said, 23, was pursuing a group of people at a car wash near Oakwood and Dix roads Sunday when 44-year-old Michael Lopez fatally shot him and fled the scene, reports said.
Police launched a manhunt that eventually ended Monday after officers arrested Lopez Monday in the area of Livernois Avenue and Otis Street in southwest Detroit, according to police.

Dearborn Police and other police agencies helped Melvindale Police look for Lopez.
"I am profoundly saddened by the senseless and tragic murder of Officer Mohamed Said," Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said in a Facebook post. "He was a kind soul who proudly served the residents of Melvindale. I pray for his family, friends and our police community as we grieve the loss of a brother."

The fatal shooting comes a month after an Oakland County deputy was fatally shot in Detroit while pursuing a stolen SUV.
