Teen Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Oakland Co. Officer To Stand Trial

Two other people have been arrested in connection with the killing, but they have not yet been formally charged.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — A teenager, who was charged in connection with the shooting death of an Oakland County Sheriff's officer will stand trial.

Karim Blake Moore, 18, of Clinton Township, was charged with three counts of lying to police and one count of resisting arrest. He was placed on house arrest at his parents' home after posting a $50,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for July 24.

If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison for each count of lying to police and up to two years for the resisting arrest charge.

Two other people have been arrested in connection with the killing, but they have not yet been formally charged by police. They were being held on fleeing from police and weapons charges in connection with a different case that happened in March. A judge has revoked both of their bonds in connection with that March case.

Police said Moore was one of three people inside a stolen Chevy Equinox that Oakland County Sheriff's Deputy Bradley J. Reckling was following in Detroit last month before someone inside the SUV got out and opened fire, killing Reckling.

The suspects then ran away from the SUV before they were eventually caught roughly three blocks away on a porch of a Detroit home of someone they didn't know, according to prosecutors.

Moore told investigators he was inside the SUV but didn't fire the shots, according to prosecutors.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard called the shooting "an ambush."
